Become an official SIB member!
Dear island biologists,
We finally did it! As the president of the Society of Island Biology, José María Fernández Palacios, informed the participants of the Island Biology 2023 meeting in Lipari (Aeolian Islands, Italy), the SIB is now an officially registered society with seat in La Laguna, Tenerife, Spain. Therefore, we'd like to use the momentum created by the fantastic conference in Lipari to welcome island biologists from around the world to become members of the SIB. Joining the SIB will help the island community grow, strengthen the ties among island biologists from around the world and give you benefits for future conferences (e.g., conference fee reductions, grants for PhD students, participation in online seminars, and participation in the election of the new SIB board). Since we are a young society, the board has agreed to use the membership to fund a part-time officer who will manage memberships as well as the communication of the society (email list, webpage, social media, webinars, etc.). In the future, we are planning to use membership fees to subsidize society activities such as workshops, and conferences scholarships targeted especially at early-career researchers and island biologists from underrepresented regions.
The annual membership fees for the society are structured according to your net income. Please note that students are defined as undergraduate, graduate and PhD students. Possibilities to become a benefactor, memberships for organizations and lifetime memberships (only paid once!) exist as well:
